"The Future is Grass".
New in the ZDF Digital Art Gallery (in German only)!

The earth is devastated, humanity has abolished itself through environmental destruction and finally through nuclear war. Dystopia or a not so unrealistic perspective? Günter Grass, writer, visual artist and, above all, a vigilant observer of his time, was already addressing the dangers of armament and environmental exploitation in the 1980s - decades before Vladimir Putin repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons or world climate conferences discussed how to contain the already devastating consequences of climate change. In his novel The Rat, published in 1986, rats build a new civilisation after the fall. The new edition of the Digital Art Gallery of the Günter Grass House and ZDFkultur now introduces the visual artist Grass in more detail and presents his works in an unusual setting: a rat burrow. Via winding corridors, the audience enters four virtual rooms that bring together Grass's sculptural, drawing and writing oeuvre.

The multimedia exhibition "The Future is Grass" can be visited from Friday, 16 December 2022, at https://digitalekunsthalle.zdf.de.
